(July 2019) A $2.3 million grant from the Helmsley Trust will be used to develop a sensor that continuously measures insulin and glucose levels in the labs of Professor Jeff LaBelle in the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology.
“The project will be conducted in two parallel approaches”, LaBelle said. “The first using molecular engineering to find the optimal recognition element for continuous insulin detection and incorporating that into a wearable sensor device. The second is combining an insulin sensor with a glucose sensor, which we have already developed, to create one sensor for continuous measurement of insulin and glucose”.
The collaborate project also partners with experts at the University of North Caroline and the Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
