Biographical sketches (or Biosketches) is a form that summarizes an individual’s qualifications for a specific role in an externally funded project. A biosketch is normally requested for projects funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). 

Both the NIH and NSF require specific formatting for their biosketchs. Biosketches can be completed in two main ways/formats: 

  • Using a curriculum vitae (CV) to manually fill out fillable PDF templates that are approved by the NIH or NSF. 
  • SciENcv

Specifics on each format:

PDF Fillable Approved Templates are fillable sheets that can filled using a researcher’s CV, the formatting may be difficult to assemble, but it important to prioritize researcher information that is most relevant for the project at hand.
